Not everyone is. But when you are, it it the most rewarding and pleasurable experience. Stallions have a heart. Stallions in this breed are gentle, magic, powerful and giving, and easy to handle, when very carefully selected based on their previous training and daily handling. Not all paso studs are easy. Our paso fino stallions do represent the finest in the breed. They can be ridden on trails with mares and other stallions, bred and shown, with no problem. Many times, they are easier and gentler than paso fino geldings out there on the market. But you need to have separate living quarters for your stallion and only turn him out alone, or pasture him separately from the herd. Pasos are mesmerizing. If you are not a breeder, or if you do board your pleasure horse somewhere else, do not complicate your life, pick a mare or a gelding, the myth of the bad stallion from other breeds is too strong out there, and ignorant people will turn your dream stallion into a nightmare if they handle him with fear or banish him (and you!) from their rides because of their own prejudice against stallions. Whatever you do, think of why you want your horse in the first place. Always be careful when you buy at distance, chemistry with your new horse is one special ingredient you do not want to miss out! The taste of someone else you send to see and ride your horse may not be your own. It is worth travelling to live the horse personally. The amount of brio (spirit) a paso fino owns is completely different from one horse to the next. You have to enjoy the perfect amount of brio and gait under you. Not two pasos ever have the same gait, the same speed, the same heart. This is not visible in a picture, or possible to describe with words. Pasos will act and gait differently under a trainer and under a novice, but they will not stand calmly or walk like a quarter horse, so you need to be a rider, have a good balance and to feel the paso, with light hands. If you have ridden all your life but never ridden a paso fino, it is a totally new experience, you need to come visit us and get introduced to the subtle riding of a paso fino horse. It is a different riding, but you pick it up very easily, and it goes to your head, after you ride a paso fino, you can never go back to the other breeds. We have happy clients from as far as Massachussets and New Jersey, California, Arizona and New Mexico, who flew specially to try out their first paso fino; they picked the one of their choice, here at the farm, sometimes it is the horse who actually picks them, they come for a mare and leave with a stallion or vice versa! So be open-minded in your search! When they took them home, they turned their new pasos into friends for ever and they still share their dream rides with us by e-mail pictures after years and years. When they call us over the years for new paso additions for their other family members, they do not need to fly to us anymore, they trust us to find their special horse based on the criteria they loved in their first horse.
